Volunteering

We hold a volunteering session once a month, on a Sunday morning. Upcoming sessions are listed in our calendar of events. And follow us on Facebook to get a reminder about a week ahead of each event.

Although Forest Farm is owned and run by Cardiff Council, volunteers from the Friends and other groups perform a wide variety of important tasks, many of which wouldn’t otherwise get done.

Activities include coppicing trees, cutting back overgrown vegetation, planting elms (to provide essential habitat for the White-letter Hairstreak butterfly), repairing footpaths, looking after the trees in the orchard, sowing wildflowers, revetting the canal banks, hedge-laying, and pulling up vast swathes of Himalayan balsam (which really does help to control it, despite how much there still is).

The work done by volunteers makes a huge difference to Forest Farm, and undoubtedly contributed to the prestigious award of Green Flag status in 2020. It’s also very rewarding and good fun, so why not come along when you can?

All equipment (tools, gloves, etc) is provided. Children welcome (under-16s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/appropriate adult).
